The pump, although preferably hidden from view, is the Heart of the Water Garden.

Pumps serve several purposes. Most importantly they circulate the water, usually through a filter system, add oxygen to the pond, and provide the beauty and serenity we desire either through the sight and sounds of a waterfall, stream, or fountain spray nozzle.

We recommend two pumps if you are planning to have a water feature (fountain, waterfall, stream, pond ornament, etc). However, larger pumps can support filtration and a water feature at the same time. If you choose to use one pump, make sure you will have ample water flowing through your filter.

The water in a pond should be circulated at least once an hour. This means that if you have a 500-gallon pond, then you need at least a 500-gallon per hour pump. However you want to make sure that the pump you choose is comparable to the filter you choose.
