To keep your water crystal clear, Little Giant™ offers the most complete and simple water treatment process on the market today. The basis is an easy-to-follow 6-step process that will provide you with safe, clean water.
Step 1 - Prep Your Water
Once you have filled your pond you need to remove the harmful chlorines and chloramines that are inherent to tape water.
Little Giant™'s Water Prep (dry) or
Little Giant™'s Water Prep (Liquid) will remove these harmful properties. Use Water Prep any time you add water to the pond.
Step 2 - Test Your Water
Little Giant™ Test Strips will give you a reading on the PH level, nitrite levels and buffering capacity of your pond. The buffering capacity is the alkalinity level which helps prevent wide ph swings.
Step 3 - Stabilize Your Pond
Add
Little Giant™'s pH Stabilizer to maintain a buffering capacity of 80 - 240 parts per million. A properly buffered pond will resist change in ph due to acid rain and other external factors.
Step 4 - Test Your Water Again
(follow procedure from Step 2)
Step 5 - Adjust ph Level
If the ph level is above 8.5, apply
Little Giant™'s ph Down. You should not change the ph level more than .2 point per day. A drastic change can cause stress and possibly death in fish. A ph reading of 7.0 is optimal.
Step 6 - Biological Balance
Add BioBalance in either
Water Soluble Bags or
Bottle. It's a natural bacterium product that will help clear and maintain the worst of pond problems.
For continued maintenance, it's a good idea to test the pond water once a week. pH levels are at their lowest point in the morning, so testing in the morning is ideal - and it helps establish a routine. Sunlight will cause the pH to rise throughout the day.
**Even
low levels of chlorine and chloramines can be toxic to fish. These
substances are added to cities water supplies to make the water safe for
human consumption. However, they are extremely harmful to all pond life.
Chlorine and chloramines cause gill damage which eventually results in
gill lesions. These lesions will eventually thicken the gill filaments
leaving fish unable to utilize oxygen and release carbon dioxide, thus
resulting in fish death. To prevent this damage from occurring add Little
Giant Liquid Dechlorinator to your pond with each water exchange or when
beginning a new pond. Liquid Dechlorinator has been designed to remove
toxic chlorine and chloramines from tap water. Liquid Dechlorinator will
work to break the chlorine/chloramine bonds and reduce the chlorine and
ammonia down to non-toxic levels. Designed for smaller ponds, Liquid
Dechlorinator will safely and effectively remove these harmful substances
from ponds and water gardens.
